Newcastle vs Aston Villa Predictions
Newcastle haven’t won since top scorer Callum Wilson suffered an injury. Villa can add to the Magpies' problems with a win at St James' Park.
Newcastle have lost 8 of their last 12 matches (Premier League).
Newcastle have seen under 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 matches (Premier League).
Aston Villa have won 2 of their last 3 matches against Newcastle to nil (Premier League).
Aston Villa have seen under 2.5 goals in their last 10 away matches against Newcastle (all competitions).
Aston Villa have seen under 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches (Premier League).
Aston Villa have seen under 2.5 goals in their last 4 away matches (Premier League).
Head-to-Head Newcastle have the historical edge over Villa winning 71 and drawing 38 times in 166 games between the sides. Villa have won 57 times. Newcastle have only won 1 of the last 7 meetings between the two sides. The last meeting was in January and Villa came out comfortable 2-0 victors at Villa Park. Goals came from Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore. Newcastle Form Newcastle are getting dragged into the relegation battle with Fulham breathing down their necks. They come into the game off the back of two consecutive draws. A 1-1 draw against Wolves, where a Jamaal Lascelles goal was equalled out by Ruben Neves, was followed up with a 0-0 bore draw against fellow strugglers West Brom last Sunday. Only Southampton have gained fewer points than Newcastle have in the Premier League this calendar year and their form will be a real worry for the supporters. Newcastle have only won two of their last 18 matches in all competitions, although their only defeats in the last five games were against Chelsea and Man United. They’ve only scored two times in their last four games and the lack of goals has been a real issue of late. Newcastle Injuries and Team News Top scorer Callum Wilson being out of the side is a big worry as Newcastle have failed to win in the four games since his injury. Fellow goal threats Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron remain out. Defender Fabian Schar is also absent. Aston Villa Form Villa have been severely hamstrung by a lengthy injury list and the absence of talismanic Jack Grealish. It has resulted in stuttering form and in the last six games they’ve won two, drawn two and lost two. They come into the match off the back of a hugely disappointing 1-0 loss to Sheffield United and a 0-0 draw with Wolves. One big positive is their defensive resilience as Villa sit behind only league leaders City with 14 clean sheets this season. Aston Villa Injuries and Team News Bertrand Traore, Anwar El Ghazi and Jack Grealish will be hoping for a return to the squad but the game may come too quick. Full back Matty Cash and forward Wesley should still be out.
Verdict
Newcastle's form, lack of goalscoring options and Villa’s strength at the back point to a narrow away win.
