Newcastle vs Wolves Predictions

Wolves are on a good run of form and are value to add to Newcastle's problems. With the hosts missing top scorer Callum Wilson, a Wolves win to nil offers value.

  • Newcastle have lost 10 of their last 14 matches (Premier League).

  • Wolves have won 3 of the last 4 matches (Premier League).

  • Wolves have kept 2 clean sheets in their last 4 matches (Premier League).

Head-to-Head Wolves have the historical edge over Newcastle, winning 40 and drawing 27 times in 99 games between the sides. Newcastle have won 32 times. Wolves are unbeaten in the last five meetings between the two sides, but this run has included four successive 1-1 draws. The last match saw a bore draw turn into some late excitement as both sides scored in the final 10 minutes. A last-minute Jacob Murphy free kick tied the game 1-1. Newcastle Form

Steve Bruce’s side are under pressure. Losing 10 of their last 14 league games has left them one place and three points above the relegation zone. Wins against Everton and Southampton in their last five games looked set to launch a restart to their season. But successive losses in their last two games have seen them falter again. A 2-0 defeat away to Chelsea was followed by a 3-1 defeat to Man United at Old Trafford last time out. Newcastle are certainly being dragged into the relegation battle and need results quickly. The absence of an attacking threat has killed them and one clean sheet in 10 games is a major worry. Newcastle Injuries and Team News The much-missed finisher Callum Wilson is set to be out for another month. He joins defenders Javi Manquillo, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar on the injury list. Stand-in striker Joelinton is a doubt so Newcastle may opt for Andy Carroll or Dwight Gayle up front. Allan Saint-Maximin is also a possibility for the role.

Wolves Form

Wolves' form hasn’t been great with just three wins in the last 12 matches, but they are unbeaten in the last four and all three wins have come in this run. The Valentine’s Day comeback against Southampton saw them come from behind to win 2-1 down. Goals by Ruben Neves from the spot and a great solo goal from Pedro Neto gave them the away victory. Their 1-0 home victory against Leeds in their last outing came through an own goal as an Adam Traore shot cannoned off the Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier's back. They were also on the favourable side of a VAR decision as a Patrick Bamford goal was ruled out. Wolves have conceded just two goals in the last four games and will be hoping to keep it tight at the back away from home. Wolves Injuries and Team News Wolves have also been missing their influential striker of late as Raúl Jiménez, but he has thankfully began training following his terrible head injury. Along with long time absentee Jiménez, forward Daniel Podence and defenders Willy Boly and Marcal will all miss this game.

Verdict

Newcastle’s terrible run of form doesn’t look set to stop. Wolves have had a good run of late and should win the game and continue the Geordie woe.

Wolves keeping a clean sheet is possible with a heavily blunted Newcastle strike force.
