Billy Liddell at One Hundred - An evening with Peter Kenny Jones

Thursday 11th November 2021

18:30 - 20:00 at Waterstones, Liverpool

Join us for an evening with author Peter Kenny Jones, as he discusses his recent book, 'Billy Liddell at One Hundred', in-conversation with Matty Orme. The event will take place in our event space on the first floor of our store, from 6:30-8pm.

Billy Liddell at One Hundred celebrates the life of Liverpool and Scotland legend Billy Liddell.

Born in Fife in 1922, Billy made the move from Scotland to Liverpool at 16, but the Second World War delayed his debut. After serving in the RAF as a navigator, he returned to football and won the league with Liverpool in his first full season with the club after the war.

A diehard Red, Billy spent his whole career with the club, scoring 228 times in 534 appearances between 1938 and 1961. He remains the oldest goalscorer in Liverpool's history and their fourth-highest scorer of all time. Liddell spent a decade playing for Scotland and has the honour - alongside Stanley Matthews - of being one of only two men to represent a Great Britain XI more than once.

A true sportsman and consummate professional, he was never booked or sent off in his entire footballing career. Liddell at One Hundred brings you the inside story of his life from those who knew him best - friends, supporters, family members and former team-mates.

Peter Kenny Jones began writing about the history of football during studies at Liverpool Hope University, where his BA and MA dissertations were on the history of Liverpool and Everton FC. Since then, he has written on football history more broadly with pieces for matchday programmes, magazines, TV and radio. His Merseyside football history expertise and relation to a Liddell family friend presented the opportunity for this, his debut book.

Matty Orme is a breakfast presenter on local FM radio station KCCLIVE. Matty has been involved in broadcasting for 12 years starting out aged 15, becoming one of the youngest FM radio presenters to date. In 2019 Matty launched his podcast ‘Redscast’ with discussions focusing solely on his beloved reds. From his podcast Matty was then asked to host a podcast for large Liverpool fan account LFC Transfer Room, interviewing some Liverpool Legends along the way.

Please note that in the event of a change to the schedule, or a cancellation, ticketholders will be refunded no later than 7 days after the event. You will be contacted nearer the time with more information related to current government guidance.
